Heelift boots offer treatment and protection for heel pressure ulcer patients

Because all of your patients are different, Position Health has always made a point of assuring that Heelift brand boots are customizable. But customizable boots are just the beginning. We are also working to make sure your heel pressure ulcer prevention plan is uniquely fitted to each patient’s needs. While all Heelift Brand Boots include a customizable heel offloading pad to help create a pressure-free environment, we have expanded our family of pressure relief products so that you can now recommend the product that includes the right features at the right price for your patients.

& Heelift AFO


Heelift AFO Ultra and Heelift AFO are not typical ankle foot orthosis devices. While both products are indicated for conditions treated by convention AFOs, Heelift AFO boots also provide offloading benefits to help prevent heel ulcers. Additionally, the semi rigid brace and the outer lining help maintain proper foot position and assist in preventing foot drop deformity.

Durable, Smooth Exterior: Allows the leg to glide easily across bed sheets and under covers.

Extended forefoot: A longer forefoot area helps protect toes.

Forefoot strap: Keeps the heel offloading boot in place and helps support the forefoot.

Semi-rigid Polypropylene Brace: the soft material of Heelift AFOs, together with the semi-rigid polypropylene brace, provide the best possible control of the ankle’s position and motion.

Non-slip Traction Sole: allows patients to walk short distances, meaning you don’t have to remove and reapply the boot after the patient is transferred from the bed or wheelchair. Assistance is recommended.

Heelift Glide Ultra and Heelift Glide boots move easily over the sheets, which helps keep them in place. That means fewer adjustments and less time spent reapplying the boot. The comfortable design means better patient compliance and fewer patient complaints. They are easy to clean — both boots are washable and the interior of Heelift Glide Ultra can simply be wiped clean.

Since its introduction in 1979, Heelift Classic has helped millions of patients prevent and treat heel pressure ulcers. Over the last few decades, the Heelift Classic and Heelift Basic have allowed facilities to shift their focus from expensive treatment methods to safer, more economical prevention strategies.

The Heelift Basic offers the same offloading that clinicians have depended on from the Heelift name for 30 years. It is intended for patients and caregivers who need an economical option without sacrificing Heelift quality.

Extended Stitching: Located along the top rim, the added stitching narrows the forefoot and increases support to provide improved protection against foot drop, equines deformity, or heel cord contracture.

Forefoot Support: Spring back technology helps to keep the foot upright.

Heelift Traction


Heelift Traction Boot provides an inventive method of applying skin traction to help stabilize femur fractures prior to surgery and to help prevent heel pressure ulcers after surgery. With up to ten pounds straight skin traction for fracture pain relief, latex-free Heelift Traction Boot helps prevent heel and lateral malleolar ulcers and avert peroneal nerve pressure injury at the fibular head, as well as providing forefoot support to avoid heel cord contracture. During the pre-surgical period when the patient lacks the ability to control the leg, Heelift Traction Boot elevates the leg and controls foot drop and rotation.

Heelift FAQs


What is the Best Practice Usage of the Heelift? Caregivers going off shift should open the Heelift and inspect the ankle and heel cord (Achilles Tendon) and leave the Heelift open for ventilation. Caregivers coming on shift should close the straps after inspecting the ankle/foot and heel cord.

Are the Heelift Boots latex-free? Yes!

May the Heelift Boots be used on multiple patients? This is not recommended. Consult your physician or infectious disease specialist about cleaning, sanitizing, or autoclaving.

Can Heelift AFO and Heelift AFO Ultra serve as a night brace? Yes! In addition to offloading the heel, Heelift AFO and Heelift AFO Ultra also can be utilized as standard AFO devices for treatment of plantar fasciitis and foot drop deformity. Unlike other AFO devices, the soft fabric and foam design of the Heelift AFO and Heelift AFO Ultra helps prevent injury to the patient’s other leg.

What is the function of the tread on the bottom of the Heelift AFO? The tread on the bottom of both AFO boots assists the patient in walking very short distances. This helps increase the safety for patient transfers, especially for physical therapy.

What is the purpose of the outside covering? Heel offloading devices can get tangled in bed sheets. When this happens, the patient’s foot can fall out of the boot completely or become situated in a position that is not ideal for heel ulcer prevention. The outside covering of the Heelift Glide helps the boot glide over bed sheets to help maintain proper foot positioning.

What is the function of the white low friction backing material on the bottom of the Heelift? The white tricot material allows the foam Heelift to glide over bed sheets without friction. This keeps the foot firmly in proper position because the foot moves easily over the bed encouraging motion, decreasing DVT risk, and saving nursing time from frequent repositioning of the device. The tricot material does not cover the entire boot in order to avoid heat retention, and to allow the boot to breath better.

How long does the Heelift Boot last/function? A Heelift will last from three months to twelve months depending on the activity of the patients.

Do the Heelift Boots come with guarantees? Yes, for six months on a single patient.

I have used Heelift for over 2 years in LTC. The Heelift Glide and AFO are effective in offloading and preventing pressure ulcers on immobile LTC residents’ lower legs and feet, both while in bed and when up in a wheelchair, as well as preventing traumatic injuries/wounds on diabetic residents.
